Yoshimi FUTAMURA
Yoshimi FUTAMURA
Yoshimi Futamura’s art is a celebration of the irresistibility of natural forces. She plunges us into a world of barks and crusts where the ambivalence between the mineral and the vegetal is deliberately maintained so as to extend the field of references and confer on her creations a real sense of universality. For her, an epiderm can’t just be an inert covering, like a last layer at the end of a form, but an essential expression of all the forces that it will have had to bear in order to be what it finally is. Whether they be crusty, ruptured, fissured, wrinkled, stressed, stretched, smooth, powdery, dry or coarse, Yoshimi declines them to construct her paradigms of the bond between us and matter, and perhaps more specifically between us and the geology of ceramics, this original clay.
