Michel Wohlfahrt is probably the best known of the French figurative sculptors who have chosen clay as their favoured means of expression. His immense oeuvre stands as being irremediably invested with his limitless energy, his contagious sense of humour and his permanent celebration of our shared humanity, the whole underlined by a welter of sensual souvenirs.
His special gift lies in capturing all the inherent theatricality that lies at the heart of every rapport between a man and a woman and bring it to life. Thus, his men, even when standing alone like heroic steles, appear so endowed with life force that they seem on the verge of movement.
