Artist Profile
Pierre Aulas
Presentation
After an international career as a fragrance creator, Pierre Aulas chose to leverage his olfactory expertise and botanical knowledge, applying them to his passion for ceramics.
It was a natural progression for him to continue his love affair with plants and flowers—now immortalizing them in porcelain rather than extracting their essence.
The process is lengthy: it involves selecting species that lend themselves to the technique, choosing the optimal harvest time, and—following multiple dips in liquid porcelain and high-temperature firing—creating an eternal “sarcophagus” for them. Pierre then enjoys composing imaginary bouquets to create framed displays of reinvented nature.
In 2006, Pierre Aulas and Bertrand Ricq established their studio in Puisaye (Yonne), a region with an ancestral, symbolic connection to working with clay. There, they work “with four hands and one nose.”
