Johannes is undoubtedly one of the most important and distinctive functional potters working today. Apparently simple, his pots constitute a masterful lesson in unlearning technical skill. Their celebration of what it was once like to be soft and plastic is one of the hallmarks of his art, the other being his minimalist approach to decoration which allows the merest line or pictogram to assume unparalleled importance.

His pots are containers that exalt the void and allow the contents to speak. The assured nonchalance of his concepts seems to detach his pots from their functional role and rather amusingly suggests that you are laying your table with high art. Which is of course true !
