Of Iranian origin, Athena Jahantigh distills an art inspired by a crossbreeding between the primitive sources of parietal art and the Persian representation of the natural world, so superbly illustrated by the miniatures of the 14th century. The result are sculptures of rare elegance where callipyge equines and gruff bovids take on a decidedly statuesque look. While appearing perfectly contemporary with their streamlined profiles and forgotten sexual attributes, her animals seem perfectly timeless, suspended between lost origins and a modernity that no longer has any consideration for wildlife.
