Mathieu CASSEAU
Mathieu CASSEAU
French potter, long specialized in the unpredictable work of sigillata clay, Mathieu Casseau is internationally recognized for his immaculately finished pots. A technique dating back to the Gallo-Roman era and one of the largest European factories of which was that of Graufesenque in Millau, it was initially adopted to give the usual pottery fired at low temperature an attractive surface and above all an almost perfect seal. Today, it is above all the remarkable qualities of the surface and its ability to react to the smallest variations in firing conditions that attract the attention of artists around the world. It is an infinitely delicate means for them to put themselves in communion with the earth and the fire, to seek this exquisite expression that only clay allows.
