Here, everything is a question of form: – and by philosophical extension, as the French are fond of, the struggle between determinism, where everything is the fruit of the past, and indeterminism, where the present is invented as it sees fit. What better way to illustrate this battle of essentially taxonomic chapels than the works of two artists from each camp brought together in this exhibition of striking contrasts. Here are Rafa Perez and Jongjin Park as champions of randomness in the face of the sculptures of James Evans, with particularly considered shapes, here are the statuesque inventions of Monika Debus, like her iconic “Standing Stones”. A nicely tough match with some great choices!
